Statistics have shown an alarming increase of robberies in the past several years. Within the years 1999 to 2003, FBI reports have shown a substantial increase in the percentage rate of robberies happening around the country.
A recorded increase of eighteen percent has been observed from 1999 to the year 2003. Most of these robberies in 1999 have taken place in public areas such as streets and alleys. However, an alarming report of fourteen percent increase of robberies in 2003 occurred in homes and residences. This means to say that crimes have taken from the streets to the suburbs and residential areas - places where people should feel safest in.
A Home Security Camera
When it comes to home safety and security measures, the home security camera is one of the most popular gadgets that you can equip your home with. A home security camera gives you a certain amount of peace and security knowing that everything that happens within your residence and within its premises can be captured on tape. Albeit it cannot stop anyone from burglarizing your home, a home security camera can easily transmit live feeds to local receivers or to remote home security stations, alarming them of any suspicious occurrences and allowing them to respond immediately and appropriately to the situation. Furthermore, home security camera recordings can also be used in court. Thus, robbers may be discouraged and deterred from further burglarizing your home.
Setting Up
Home security cameras are available in many types and shapes allowing you to install them in the most inconspicuous areas in your home. It also comes in wired or wireless models that are easy to set up or install. The wireless home security camera allows you to set the camera up without the tell-tale signs of the cords and wires running along in every corner. Using a wireless home security camera is discreet as well as hassle-free.
Some homeowners may choose to install security cameras in plain view of everyone. Again, this is one way of discouraging robbers from entering the house. Some homeowners of larger homes also choose to set up their cameras in more discreet or hidden areas around their homes. It allows them to monitor activities of guests and house help without being seen or noticed. Both approaches work best depending on your main purpose of installing the camera.
How Many Do You Need?
The specific number of home security cameras that you need will depend on many factors such as:
- the size of the grounds
- the size of your home
- the number of rooms you want to cover
- the number of entrance and exits you want to cover
- how closely you want every corner monitored
Home security cameras are essential to giving your home some level of security. However, what every homeowner should keep in mind is that these home security cameras would be worthless and useless if they are not backed with a strong home security system. Home security cameras become pointless if there is no one to see and monitor the feeds and it becomes even more futile if there is no one to respond to emergency situations.

Marshall's death had caused Jake to feel more worried. He was also saddened by the fact that Marshall wasn't alive anymore.
Marshall had been Jake's companion for about twelve years, and was Jake's loyal German Shepherd, who watched over Jake's sporting goods store for suspicious people and troublemakers. Although the neighborhood had gotten worse from time to time, Marshall was the guard to rely on.
Jake's store was the only commercial stall on the block which had no signs of vandalism. The others, of course, had walls vandalized with unpleasant graffiti.
It was like people wouldn't want to have an unfriendly encounter with a big guard dog.
Although Marshall had appeared to be rather fierce, he was actually a sweet one. Everyone who knew Jake very well, knew about the kisses Marshall would prepare for Jake just about every morning.
Melissa, Jake's daughter, was the one who kept the stores record's in place. She would usually pay a visit to her father at least once a week. She had known from the start that her old father couldn't afford to buy a state-of-the-art security system, and so, she figured he had to train another big dog.
During one of Melissa's visits, she gave her father a present. It was a box that she referred to as something that should keep Marshall's legend alive.
The present was an Electronic Watch Dog, which uses infrared sensors that detect intruders at a given distance. Once it does, it produces barking sounds similar to that of a dog. Of course, Melissa taught Jake how to use the system.
That Saturday night, two teenage boys strolled up the sidewalk. The midnight streetlight stretched their shadows halfway up the block. They banged and pulled on security gates as they talked about the trouble they could cause.
"Didn't old man Benson's dog just die?" the teenager asked his companion.
The other said he heard something like that.
They hustled up to the front window, but before they could even try to break in, they heard loud barking from inside the store.
And it was getting louder.
"I thought you said that dog was dead," cried the short hooligan.
"He must have got a new one," replied the other, "I'm not messing with a dog!"
The two punks ran away.
Like what Melissa had said before, Marshall's legacy would continue, thanks to the Electronic Watch Dog.

Ask anybody about the home security measures they take whenever they are away from home for more than a day. Chances are, all the responses will not be the same and answers unique. Now, you know the trick...and the burglars and thieves know all the tricks also. I'll explain this in a second. Home security measures do have a few variations, but remember, the worst thing you can do to protect your home, is to do nothing at all.
It really doesn't take much to implement precautions. For instance, when you are not at home, leave your blinds and curtains closed and a light on in a room or two. This way, a potential home intruder can only guess if somebody is home. This technique makes it difficult for him to see in your house to confirm it, and chances are, your home will then fail to become a target for him.
You can also leave on the radio or a television. If they hear the noise, they will be less inclined to take a chance.
As far as home security measures, it would be a terrible set back if you left a note on the front door for people, telling them you are not at home, and possible where you are. Leaving things at the foot of the front door is usually a tell tale sign that no one is home.
Thieves today are much more knowledgeable than in days past. But they still know some of the old school techniques for home security measures that us homeowners do. Hiding a key outside your home is just not as effective as it used to be. Don't think you are being creative with a hiding place. They know all the places and will find it.
Please do not leave your keys, purse, wallet or valuables of any kind near the front or back door. How convenient do you want to make it for a burglar?
If you are concerned at all about your home security, these tips are the easiest to implement. Don't make it easy for a thief to invade your home. Take the time to learn more about home security measures. Use a common sense approach, and consider making the investments to keep you and yourself safe.
